The Multicultural Community Services started Padres Unidos en Accion (PUA) in Holyoke in September 2002. Headed up by Estelle Castaneda, it continues to focus on assisting Hispanic families in the area who have family members living with a developmental disability. PUA is funded by the state’s Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
Participants learn about diverse topics including legal planning, diabetes, and nutrition, understanding the legislative process, voter registration, and how to keep lawmakers informed of the needs of individuals living with developmental disabilities.
