In-Home Clinical Supports

Strengthening families through individualized behavioral support and collaborative care.

The In-Home Clinical Supports (IHCS) program provides individualized behavioral support services to families enrolled in the MCS Family Support program. Referrals for IHCS are made directly by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) through a closed referral process. This service is designed to help families understand and respond effectively to challenging behaviors while promoting positive routines, communication, and relationships within the home.

How It Works

The IHCS program uses a person-centered, family-focused approach to support individuals with developmental, emotional, or behavioral needs.
Each participant works closely with an In-Home Clinical Specialist, who collaborates with families and other service providers to:

  • Conduct assessments and observations
  • Develop a personalized behavioral support plan
  • Provide coaching and modeling for family members
  • Introduce strategies to promote positive change and effective communication

Our Approach

IHCS emphasizes collaboration, consistency, and education.
Behavioral Support Specialists develop tailored plans based on:

Sessions may take place at home, in the community, virtually, or at a day program. Clinicians provide practical tools and strategies to help families manage challenging behaviors and build stronger support systems.

  • Family interviews and consultations
  • Coordination with other care providers
  • Observation and documentation review

Program Goal

The primary goal of IHCS is to help families acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively to everyday challenges, foster independence, and improve the overall quality of life for their loved ones with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
