Autism Without Intellectual Disabilities

Supporting adults on the autism spectrum in achieving independence, connection, and personal growth.

Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who do not have an intellectual disability are now eligible to access select adult supports through the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

Upon graduating from high school or turning 22 years of age, individuals may qualify for ASD services, including day programming and Family Support through MCS.

MCS provides a range of individualized and group-based services that promote independence, skill development, and community integration.

Key Supports

Navigation

Navigators assist individuals and families in accessing resources such as Social Security, SNAP, Fuel Assistance, and mental health supports. Guidance often focuses on future planning and building long-term independence.

Group Respite

Offers virtual and in-person social opportunities, including community outings, group activities, special events, and overnight trips for individuals who thrive in group environments.

Behavioral Supports

Two Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) provide individual consultations, staff training, and group workshops to support positive behavioral growth.

Who Qualifies?

DDS determines eligibility through a formal intake and assessment process. To be eligible for ASD Adult Services, individuals must:

  • Be 22 years of age or older, or have graduated from high school
  • Have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (without intellectual disability)
  • Be eligible for DDS Autism Services

Additional Support Option

In addition to group and behavioral supports, 1:1 staffing is available for individuals who benefit from direct assistance during community activities or skill-building sessions. MCS Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work alongside participants to encourage confidence, connection, and success in everyday environments.
