Fun and Fitness is a social/recreational program for adults (18 and older) that strives to promote social, physical and emotional health through fun and cultural activities that encourage friendship building and positive social interactions.
Fun and Fitness has been in existence since 1984 and was initially partnered with the Springfield Parks Department. We are now aligned with MCS (Multicultural Community Services) operating out of 1000 Wilbraham Road in Springfield. Our program operates on a three-season schedule-winter and spring/summer/ and fall. Registration forms are sent out about a month ahead of the start of a new season either through the post office or email. Participants, family members or guardians must fill out the forms completely so that staff has all of the critical information relating to the participant.
The activities are trip based and drop-offs and pick-ups are usually located at Forest Park Friendly’s back parking lot-see schedule for all meeting places. Your responsibility is to meet us at the designated times and we use 15 passenger vans to transport participants to the activity location. The activity fees associated include staffing, the transport to the activity site, tickets and usually a meal. Participants must be independent or semi-independent, continent and self toileting, and to be able to feed themselves. Our staff ratio is about 1 staff to 7 participants. If participants need additional staffing, we ask you to send someone along so that the person’s individual needs can be met.
Once registration forms are sent to the program and are paid for, you can assume that you are confirmed to participate unless we contact you. There will be no refunds for ticketed events such as shows or sporting events that you do not show up for. For all other activities, an advanced call to notify us of cancellation is required in order to receive a full refund. If no advanced call is made, a charge will be instituted. If payment was received, it can either be transferred to another activity or refunded. It is urged that you signup early because admittance is based on a first come, first-served basis. All activities are subject to change or cancellation due to low enrollment, weather or staffing conflicts.
In the case of behavior that has a negative impact on the program or other participants, staff will discuss the issue and if necessary, parents, guardians etc. will be called to pick-up the participant. Examples of negative behavior would be verbal or physical abuse of others as well as foul language, not respecting other members or following safety directions.
If participants take medication, they must be self-administered. Staff will remind participants to take their meds at the noted times.
If you have questions regarding the upcoming week’s program, I always have the activity meeting place and time on my voice mail. My office hours are usually Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and I can be reached at 782-2500 ext 361. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
For those who need transportation to and from the meeting places, we have that available on a very limited basis and at a cost. Call for details.
For drop-offs, make sure you do not leave unless there is a staff member present. For pickups, make sure you do not leave with the participant until you notify a staff person.
If you do not own a printer and we send you an email, call me and ask me to send you forms by mail.
I will notify you of changes through email so please make sure an email address is on your registration form. For those who do not have an email address, we will call you regarding any changes. Please put dates or activities on checks and make checks out to MCS Fun and Fitness-thank you
