Community Guide

Over the last several months, Multicultural Community Services has had the unique opportunity to participate in the MABB-PCP Project (Mass. Building Blocks – Person Centered Planning.)  The goal of this project is to improve the way services are provided for seniors and those living with a disability and their families, as well as to help families, individuals and community leaders learn more about the resources that are available to them.

To identify their needs, the coalition met with four diverse groups of families who shared with us their hopes and dreams, as well as their difficulties and concerns in light of the recent budget cuts.  This Directory is a response to those hopes, needs and struggles.  It is our hope that it will provide at least some of the resources that will enable you – our families and individuals – to live fuller lives and begin to realize some of your dreams. However, as we searched for much needed resources, we discovered that along with the community, the families themselves are some of the greatest resources that we have.  In a spirit of volunteerism, families are reaching out to help each other fill the gaps left by reduced funding. MCS is proud to be part of this volunteer initiative.

We want to thank all the families and individuals who participated in this project.  You touched us deeply with your stories of courage and determination.  We want to thank our Advisory Committee and “Mappers” whose suggestions and expertise were invaluable.  The Leadership Committee, Coordinating Council, and New England Index offered us encouragement and valuable advice.  Thanks to all of you!   And finally, we are grateful to Nilka Alvarez-Rodriguez, Courtney Noblett and Margaret Chow-Menzer, whose leadership and vision kept us focused on the “prize” – the continued well-being of our families.

Sincerely,

Marie Rugani,                                                                                                                                 Coordinator – Multicultural Community Coalition
